St. Helena is Expected to have it s 1st Airport February 2016

The isolated island, with just 4,500 residents, is about to enter the aviation age. Despite a fascinating history and unique wildlife, tourists are few and far between. The residents’ reaction to the news.

Currently, the only way to reach St. Helena is by taking a five and a half days boat ride from South Africa. With the opening of the airport, there will be weekly flights to the island every Saturday via Comair. The airport is due to open for commercial and private featuring a 6,400-foot runway, a small terminal, fuel storage tanks, and a dedicated fire department—the normal things you would expect at a small airport in the U.K.
