As promised in his inaugural speech, President Obama is supporting green movements. He said “We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations,” and “the path toward sustainable energy sources will be long and sometimes difficult.” The Obama administration will enact the first federal carbon limits on the nation’s power companies by installing technology called “carbon capture and sequestration”. This technology scrubs carbon dioxide from their emissions before they reach the plant smokestacks.

The regulations are proposal to limit new gas-fired power plants to 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions per megawatt-hour and new coal plants to 1,100 pounds of carbon dioxide, which means industry production has to be reduced by an average of 40%. Kentucky, a state where coal is a good source of business, is not fond of this movement. However, the Obama administration is focusing on the big picture; carbon pollution is caused climate change leading to health, socioeconomic and environmental dangers ahead. Now is the time to act.
