Logging Wood

Logging does not need to harm or destroy the world’s forests. Natural forests can be managed carefully in ways that preserve their diversity and the services they provide. Buying sustainably harvested, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)  certified wood pushes the timber industry in a more responsible direction, discourages illegal logging, and helps create economic value for a forest ecosystem that might otherwise be cleared for agriculture or development. Forest certificationallows consumers to use their purchasing power to support forestry that conserves forests for future generations.

  • The destruction of forests contributes more greenhouse gas emissions that all of the cars, truck, planes, ships and trains in the world combined.
  • One hectare (2.47 acres) of rainforest can contain over 750 types of trees and 1500 species of higher plants.
  • Rainforests are home to more than half of the world’s plants and animals.
  • More than 20% of the world’s oxygen is produced in the Amazon rainforest.
  • Some Bamboo species are known to grow up to four feet in a single day.
